Petition to List the African Lion as Endangered

Back in December I discussed with Born Free the idea to reclassify the lion as endangered in the U.S., which would serve two purposes: (1) afford the species additional protection under the Endangered Species Act, and (2) any imports of African lion trophies would therefore be illegal. By reclassification of the lion, you're achieving two goals rather than just one.

To my delight, yesterday (March 1, 2011), Born Free along with several other lion conservation groups filed a petition for reclassify the African lion as endangered in the U.S.

Here's a link to the Petition:

If this Petition becomes law and the lion is reclassified, it will mean a huge difference in lion conservation!
